President Tinubu has announced a fresh ambassadorial appointment.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the nomination of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fashina to the Senate for confirmation as a Non-Career Ambassador/High Commissioner-designate.

The nomination was formally announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Wednesday after reading a letter from the President.

In the correspondence addressed to the upper legislative chamber, Tinubu urged senators to consider and approve the nomination expeditiously in line with constitutional provisions governing diplomatic appointments.

According to the President, the nomination was made pursuant to the relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“In accordance with the provisions of section 121, subsections 2, 3, and 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fashina as Non-Career Ambassador/High Commissioner-designate,” the letter stated.

The President further appealed to the Senate to give the nomination prompt consideration.

“Whilst I hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee expeditiously, please accept, distinguished Senate President and distinguished senators, the assurances of my highest consideration,” Tinubu added.

The nomination now awaits screening and confirmation by the Senate in line with the constitutional process for ambassadorial appointments.

If confirmed, Professor Fashina will join Nigeria’s diplomatic corps as a non-career ambassador representing the country’s interests abroad.

The development comes as the Tinubu administration continues efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy engagement and diplomatic representation across strategic countries and international organisations.
