President Scraps Seven Ministries To Cut Costs

President has scrapped seven ministries to cut costs.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Ghana’s President John Mahama has reduced the number of ministries in the country from 30 to 23 as part of efforts to cut government spending.

This change was formalized through an executive order and published in a gazette on January 9, two days after he assumed office.

The ministries of information, sanitation and water resources, national security, railway development, parliamentary affairs, public enterprises, and chieftaincy and religious affairs have been removed.

These were previously established during the tenure of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The revised structure retains key ministries such as finance, health, education, defence, and energy.

Additionally, the restructured government now includes ministries focused on green transition, digital technology, youth empowerment, and creative arts, among others.

Mahama, who was president from 2012 to 2017, returned to power after defeating former Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia in the December presidential elections.

Mahama secured 56.55% of the votes, while Bawumia gained 41.6%.

Bawumia conceded defeat before the official results were released.
