Nigerians have stormed streets in massive nationwide hunger protest despite government and security forces threats.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Nigerians have come out across the nation to hit the streets massively as they protest hunger and economic hardship under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

 

Human rights lawyers; Femi Falana, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, Deji Adeyanju; former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, the Take It Back movement and many others called for a nationwide protest against hunger and bad governance in the country.

The General Overseer and President of El-Buba Outreach Ministries International (EBOMI), Dr. Isa El-buba, took the lead in the hunger protest held on August 1st in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, on Thursday.

As the national coordinator of the Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN), he assured participants that the demonstration would remain peaceful throughout its duration.

Naija News understands that protesters gathered at the Plateau Secretariat overhead bridge as early as 6 am. before proceeding towards the old airport roundabout in Jos.


The #EndBadGovernance protests in Bauchi State and Abuja faced significant disruptions on Thursday as police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators.

In Bauchi, protesters had assembled in front of the Emir of Bauchi’s palace, demanding a meeting with the Emir to discuss their grievances.

However, they were met with a police barricade. Despite their insistence on meeting with the Emir, the police used tear gas to break up the gathering.


Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have successfully dispersed a group of youths attempting to break into a store along Zoo Road in the state capital.

The suspects targeted the two-storey building housing Sadaraki Stores, trying to force their way in. However, before the arrival of security operatives, the suspects had already caused damage to the building by destroying its windows.


As the nationwide protest against economic hardship began on August 1st, the roads and streets of Lagos is presently deserted, with banks, eateries, fuel stations, and other businesses shut down.

The streets, usually busy with activities, were very quiet as armed security forces took strategic positions throughout the city.


Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have fired teargas on a group of protesters around the federal secretariat in Abuja — Nigeria’s capital city.


Protesters head to Alausa, Lagos seat of power, while heavy police presence has been spotted in Ojota, Lagos State.

Hunger protesters on Thursday converged at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, in compliance with a court order restricting them to the facility.

Protesters gathered as early as 6 am singing solidarity songs. Present at the stadium are heavily armed security operatives.

Activists and groups had declared the protest in response to the economic hardship. The protests are expected to last for 10 days.
