INEC has extended the continuous voter registration and launched online self-service registration portal.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Taraba State and unveiled a new self-service online registration platform for first-time voters.
INEC announced that the CVR exercise, initially scheduled to end on Friday, July 10, 2026, will now continue until Sunday, July 26, 2026, following a nationwide review aimed at expanding access to voter registration ahead of future elections.
The commission said the extension is intended to give more eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register and ensure that no qualified voter is excluded from the national register.

As part of efforts to improve the registration process through technology, INEC also introduced a self-service voter registration platform for first-time voters. The digital platform will become operational on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, and can be accessed via the official Continuous Voter Registration portal: https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Head of the Voter Education and Publicity Department in Taraba State, Ngunan Rachael Iyongo, said the new system enables eligible citizens to initiate and complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices such as smartphones and computers without physically visiting INEC offices.
According to the commission, the online portal includes a step-by-step guide to help applicants complete the registration process seamlessly.
INEC urged all eligible residents of Taraba State who have yet to register as voters to take advantage of the extended registration period and the newly introduced online registration platform.
The electoral body reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a transparent, credible, and technology-driven voter registration process that strengthens citizens’ participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
