Governor Adeleke has demanded for the release of Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi after reported arrest.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the reported arrest of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sunday Bisi, and demanded his immediate release.

Adeleke made the call in a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, 2026, by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, as voting and vote counting continued in the Osun governorship election.

According to the statement, security operatives arrested Bisi at his residence in Ilesa shortly after he returned from casting his ballot.

The governor said the PDP chairman was taken to an undisclosed location, adding that no official explanation had been provided for his detention.

Adeleke described the reported arrest as an attempt to intimidate his supporters and prevent them from monitoring the collation of election results.

“This latest sweep on my supporters, I have authoritatively learnt, is part of a broader plan to give the APC unhindered access to change results at collation centres and upturn our wins at the poll,” he alleged.

The governor accused the All Progressives Congress of collaborating with what he described as compromised security agents to restrict his supporters’ access to collation centres.

Neither the APC nor the security agencies had responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.

Adeleke described any attempt to interfere with the collation process as an attack on democracy and urged state institutions to remain impartial throughout the election.

He demanded the release of Bisi and others he described as political detainees across Osun State.

“Election should be about the people freely giving their mandates to the person of their choice without threat or force,” the governor said.

Earlier reports indicated that Bisi was allegedly arrested at about 2 p.m. at his Ilesa residence. However, the Osun State Police Command had not officially confirmed the arrest or disclosed the reason for it at the time of this report.
