BREAKING: 170 Rep Members Wade Into August Protests, Tell Youths What To Do

170 Rep Members have waded into the planned August protests and urged the Youths to embrace dialogue.

 

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that one hundred and seventy members of the House of Representatives have appealed to youths to reconsider their planned protests beginning from August 1 and instead engage in dialogue with the Federal Government.

 

The 170 members under the auspices of the “New Dawn Caucus – 10th Assembly” made the appeal in a communique at the end of its 1st Session Dinner at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

 

The Communique was signed on behalf of the 170 members by Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun, Hon. Leko Jafaru Gambo, Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, Hon. Martins Esin and Hon Ojema Ojotu.

The communique reads: “Members of the New Dawn Caucus – 10th Assembly held an End of 1st Session Dinner at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, and resolved as follows:

 

“New Minimum Wage: Caucus commends both Chambers of the National Assembly for the expeditious passage of the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act and is pleased with the reduction in the review period for the minimum wage from 5 to 3 years.

“Planned Hardship Protest: While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, Caucus appeals to Nigerians, particularly the youths, to reconsider the planned hardship protest and instead engage in dialogue with the Federal Government to address the economic challenges faced by the populace.

“Security: Caucus urges all security chiefs and agencies to take decisive action to curb the insecurity in the country.

 

“Rep Members’ Solidarity With Nigerians: Caucus commends the Honourable members of the 10th House for demonstrating empathy by deciding to forgo 50 percent of their salaries for six months in light of the economic hardships faced by citizens.

 

“Vote of Confidence: “Caucus passes a vote of confidence on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass, PhD, for his sound leadership and proven ability to unite members of the House for the greater good.

“Conclusion: Caucus reaffirms its commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing the nation and its citizens. Caucus pledges to continue working collaboratively with all stakeholders to foster a prosperous, secure, and equitable Nigeria, and calls on all Nigerians to join hands in supporting these efforts, as unity and dialogue remain our strongest tools in overcoming challenges and achieving our collective goals.”
