Nationwide Strike

SSANU and NASU have embarked on a 7-day warning nationwide strike.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have declared a 7-day warning strike to demand the payment of four months of withheld salaries of their members, following the 2022 nationwide strike.

This Nigeria news platform gathered that the decision was part of the resolution of the joint action committee of the two unions, after a meeting held in Akure at the weekend.

Mohammed Ibrahim, President of SSANU, made this known while reading the communiqué of the meeting to journalists in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Monday, March 11, 2024.

The SSANU President noted that the decision to embark on the warning strike was taken as a last resort since several protest letters and other communications with the Federal Government did not result in the payment of the withheld salaries.

Meanwhile, NewsOnline Nigeria understands that the development followed the recent nationwide protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the current economic hardship, which has led to a high cost of living across the country.
