Babcock University has threatened legal action against Carter Efe over fake degree certificate.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Babcock University has announced plans to take legal action against Nigerian streamer and content creator Carter Efe over an alleged forged degree certificate circulating on social media.

The controversy began after Carter Efe, during an interview with Egungun of Lagos, claimed that he had graduated from the private university with top honours.

Following the interview, the streamer shared what he described as his graduation certificate on the social media platform X, claiming he earned a degree in Biochemistry with a “First Class Upper.”

Reacting in a public statement issued on Sunday, Babcock University dismissed the claims, describing the certificate as fraudulent and warning members of the public against relying on such documents.

The university clarified that it does not award undergraduate degrees with a classification known as “First Class Upper,” noting that any certificate bearing such a designation is fake.

“FRAUD ALERT: Babcock University does not issue ‘Honorary Certificates’ for undergraduate performance and has no classification known as ‘First Class Upper.’

“Any document claiming otherwise is fraudulent and should be disregarded. We urge the public to verify all credentials through the Office of the Registrar,” the institution said.

The university further disclosed that it would pursue appropriate legal action against those responsible for producing and circulating the alleged forged certificate.

“The University will pursue appropriate legal action against those responsible for these forgeries,” the statement added.

Babcock University also advised employers, institutions and members of the public to verify academic credentials directly through the Office of the Registrar before accepting any certificate presented in the university’s name.

The development has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many users debating the authenticity of the document and the possible legal consequences if the certificate is found to have been forged.
