2027: NDC Slashes Nomination Fees for Women, Youths, Persons With Disabilities

NDC has slashed nomination fees for Women, Youths, and Persons With Disabilities.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusiveness in Nigeria’s political process by encouraging women, youths, and persons living with disabilities (PWDs) to actively participate in the 2027 general elections.

The party said the move aligns with its promise to carry every Nigerian along, including citizens in the Diaspora.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC stressed that financial status, age, or physical disability should not prevent Nigerians from contributing to nation-building through elective offices.

According to Enekweizu, women have historically faced cultural and systemic barriers that have limited their participation in politics and governance.

“The fact that someone is young and may not be a money bag or is disadvantaged by some physical disabilities should not shut him or her from contributing their quota to nation-building,” he stated.

He added that women often receive “the short end of the democracy stick” and therefore require affirmative measures to enhance their political participation.

The NDC further argued that excluding women from active political participation would amount to sidelining nearly half of Nigeria’s population from the democratic process.

To support broader inclusion, the party announced that all female aspirants contesting on its platform would pay only 50 per cent of the approved fees for both Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

The same 50 per cent discount also applies to aspirants between the ages of 18 and 35.

Meanwhile, Persons Living with Disabilities will pay only 25 per cent of the official fees across all elective categories.

The party also clarified that presidential, governorship, and National Assembly nomination forms would be obtained at its National Secretariat in Abuja, while forms for State House of Assembly positions would be available at the party’s various state offices.
