Wema Bank has announced 2026 International Women’s Day Grand Event for March 4.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Wema Bank Plc has unveiled plans for its 2026 International Women’s Day (IWD) Grand Event, scheduled to hold on March 4, 2026, as part of its continued commitment to advancing gender inclusion in Nigeria.

The bank, known as Nigeria’s oldest indigenous financial institution and pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT by Wema, said this year’s celebration will align with the global IWD 2026 theme, “Give To Gain.”

Theme: “When Women Gain, We Grow”

Centred on the theme “When Women Gain, We Grow,” the event will spotlight the impact of supporting women across personal and professional spheres, reinforcing the idea that empowering women drives collective growth for society.

Announcing the initiative, Wema Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, reaffirmed the institution’s longstanding dedication to gender equality.

“Wema Bank has never paid lip service to gender inclusion. We walk the talk with pride. A society that excludes women is a society that is crippled. We remain committed to providing tailored opportunities for women and supporting their journeys toward building a society where every woman can thrive,” Oseni said.

He referenced the bank’s women-focused proposition, SARA by Wema, launched in 2019, as a key driver of its mission to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.

According to Oseni, this year’s IWD event is focused on deepening impact by encouraging both individuals and institutions to prioritise meaningful support for women.

Event Highlights

The 2026 IWD Grand Event will bring together accomplished women across industries alongside emerging voices navigating everyday challenges. The platform aims to foster networking, mentorship, shared learning, and access to new opportunities.

Key highlights include:

  • SARA Gives to Empower Her Award – Grants to women who have positively impacted other women.

  • He For She Award – Recognition for male employees who champion women’s advancement beyond financial support.

  • Wema Knight Gives Initiative – A staff-driven outreach programme supporting women across Nigeria.

  • Wema Bank Girl Child Journal Launch – A reflective journal featuring insights and advice for the girl-child from 80 contributors across various fields.
