Alleged Coup Plot

Investigators have uncovered the purchase of 32 SUVs and Golf cars to support secret operations by alleged coup plotters.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the people accused of plotting a coup against President Bola Tinubu’s administration reportedly purchased no fewer than 32 Golf cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs to facilitate their covert activities, security sources have revealed.

According to officials who spoke with Premium Times, military investigators uncovered evidence indicating that the vehicles were procured to enable discreet movement, intelligence gathering, and access to sensitive locations, including airports and other public facilities across strategic areas.

The sources explained that the vehicles were deployed to transport members of the alleged network without attracting attention, while also supporting reconnaissance operations linked to the suspected plot.

One security official disclosed that investigators recovered documents backing the purchases, including receipts and transaction records, which detailed how the vehicles and other logistics were funded and distributed among those involved.

Investigations have also linked a retired major general, identified as Adamu, to the alleged network. He is said to have evaded arrest, alongside three other suspects who remain at large. Intelligence officials revealed that one of the fleeing suspects has been traced to a South American country, although his precise location was withheld for security reasons.

Multiple security agencies are now collaborating to dismantle remaining cells associated with the alleged plot, with intensified surveillance and cross-border intelligence cooperation underway.

Meanwhile, preparations for prosecution are ongoing. Sources within the defence and security community said authorities are awaiting presidential approval to convene a court martial to try the implicated military personnel.

“At least 25 military officers and personnel are expected to face trial in connection with the coup attempt,” a source disclosed.

Security officials added that some civilians are also in detention and under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their alleged roles in funding, logistics, and coordination of the plot.

They noted that further arrests are likely as investigations continue, with more details expected to emerge regarding how the alleged coup was organised and financed.
