President Tinubu is set to sign bill creating new state in Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has expressed his willingness to sign into law the bill proposing the creation of Anioma State, with Asaba as its capital, once it successfully completes all constitutional stages in the National Assembly.

The assurance was made public by Senator Ned Nwoko, who is spearheading the legislative push for Anioma’s creation.

Speaking at the Izu Anioma Towns Union Cultural Festival held in Abuja, Senator Nwoko revealed that 97 senators have already endorsed the proposal, signaling strong legislative backing for the initiative.

According to him, the bill which was first introduced two years ago seeks to carve Anioma State out of nine local government areas in Delta North: four from Aniocha and Oshimili, two from Ika, and three from Ndokwa. He also noted that surrounding communities like Igbanke have expressed interest in joining the new state.

Nwoko explained that the proposed constitutional amendment recommends only one new state for now — Anioma which would ensure geopolitical balance by giving the South-East a sixth state.

He disclosed that both Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Tinubu have shown support for the process, with ongoing consultations and lobbying to ensure its success.

A regional adoption meeting is scheduled to take place in Awka, Anambra State, where governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and Anioma leaders are expected to officially endorse the proposal.

Describing the development as a major breakthrough in a struggle dating back to 1954, Nwoko outlined the next steps: submission of the final documentation to the Presidency, approval by state assemblies and governors, and a national referendum where residents will vote on the creation of the new state.

Once these stages are completed, President Tinubu is expected to formally sign the bill into law, making Anioma Nigeria’s next state.

Nwoko urged the people of Anioma to remain united, patient, and prayerful as the process moves into its decisive phase.
