A group within the African Democratic Congress in Plateau State has alleged that some individuals are attempting to prevent Hon. Jude Dakur from emerging as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2027 general elections.

The Plateau State ADC Concerned Youth Group made the allegation in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its spokesperson, Jonathan Bulus.

Bulus claimed that certain individuals were seeking to undermine Dakur’s candidacy and create uncertainty around the party’s nomination process.

The group said it was particularly concerned about reports that some people were allegedly lobbying for the replacement of the party’s nominated candidate.

“Some persons who are not even from Plateau State are hell-bent on going around trying to destroy the ADC in Plateau State. What is their interest? Why are they so determined to destroy the ADC in Plateau?” Bulus asked.

According to the group, Dakur emerged from the party’s primary process as the more popular aspirant. It warned that any attempt to alter a valid nomination outside the party’s established procedures could damage the credibility of the electoral process.

“We are concerned about the people going about trying to undermine the electoral process in Plateau State. Why are they so desperate to destroy the Plateau ADC?

“Jude Dakur won the primaries as the more popular candidate, and we are worried about the determination of some individuals to stop him from emerging as the governorship candidate,” Bulus said.

The group further alleged that some individuals, including one Hashim Imam, had been canvassing for a change to the name of the purportedly nominated candidate.

NewsOnline has not independently verified the allegations, while Imam had not responded to them at the time of filing this report.

Bulus urged ADC members and other stakeholders to rely on official party documents and established nomination procedures rather than unverified names circulating through unofficial channels.

“We have seen names in circulation which do not reflect the valid nomination from the party. We therefore urge all stakeholders to be cautious and ensure that the electoral process is not manipulated by individuals pursuing personal interests,” he said.

The group claimed to possess documents supporting its position and said it would pursue its complaint through the appropriate party and legal channels.

It warned that any attempt to replace a duly nominated candidate without complying with the ADC constitution and applicable electoral laws would be challenged through legitimate democratic and legal means.

The group also called on ADC members in Plateau State to remain calm, united and vigilant while urging the party’s leadership to resolve any disagreements through established democratic mechanisms.

It maintained that the interests of the ADC and the people of Plateau State must take precedence over individual political ambitions.
