Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has faced backlash over alleged interference in Bauchi politics.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Good Governance Group, a pro-democracy advocacy platform, has called on Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to clarify his political intentions ahead of the 2027 elections in Bauchi State.

This Nigeria news platform understands that the group expressed concern over what it described as the Minister’s increasing focus on state politics at the expense of his national responsibilities.

In a statement issued on Wednesday , the group criticized what it described as a growing pattern of absentee leadership at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, citing delays in diplomatic coordination, dwindling visibility in regional affairs, and underperformance in managing Nigeria’s foreign missions.

“At a time when Nigeria’s global standing requires clear-headed leadership and focus, it is worrisome that the Minister appears more engrossed in grassroots political activity in Bauchi than in delivering on his constitutional mandate.”

The group also referenced recent tensions allegedly fueled by persons close to the Minister, warning that such distractions not only affect national governance but risk destabilizing Bauchi’s political atmosphere ahead of the 2027 elections.

“While Ambassador Tuggar is within his rights to seek elective office, the honorable course would be to resign and pursue his ambition without undermining the crucial role he currently occupies,” the group added.

The group led by the Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Isah said, “We will not sit idly while reckless children of failed public officials turn Bauchi into a battlefield for their ego wars.

“We will not be cowed by bullies in fine suits who mistake their father’s appointment for personal achievement. The attack on Shamsudeen Mohammed was not just a baseless and needless altercation.

On Tuggar’s son Adam rubbing shoulders with Shamsudeen, the group described his attitude as ”’shameful and classless ”

“This isn’t politics, this is a shameful, classless, pedestrian behavior of an entitled child who has never been disciplined, never been made to earn respect, and clearly never been taught the difference between privilege and responsibility.

“Therefore we make it clear that, “Shamsudeen Bala Mohammed doesn’t need a rented title or a father in a suit to make waves. He is grounded, respected, and stands tall beside a working governor who has delivered real results for Bauchi State. Can the same be said for you, Adam?.

“Therefore Bauchi deserves focused leadership. Nigeria’s foreign policy deserves a committed helmsman. It’s time to choose.”
