The Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023 triggered series of conflicts in the Middle East which eventually culminated in the last Saturday, February 28, 2026 full scale measure by America and Israeli efforts to carry out a regime change in Iran.

According to international affairs analysts, America and Israel together has hit more than a thousand Iranian targets in two days demonstrating that a heroic joint operations a “high value political and military people and places, and employing sophisticated conventional capabilities paired with rich intelligence and strategic planning”.

In retaliation, the Islamic Republic of Iran used missiles and drones to attack nine different countries around them including the Gulf bases where the US military operates. Iran efforts to expand the war have resulted in a number of countries who had hope to avoid the conflicts are now being brought into the needless conflicts.

However, with Iran brought down by President Trump and their Spiritual leader Khamein killed, the United States has no clue yet as per what comes next.

From the look of things pertaining to the war in Iran, the United States must prepare for a likelihood of the implosion, fragmentation and spread of chaos that may make the aftermath of their misadventures in Iraq and Libya a child’s play.

The question now is: Is the Trump administration prepared to see the Middle East engulfed in violence? As a result of this on-going war, Trump ac tion, observers have said may emboldened Putin to continue its war with Ukraine and China empowered to carry out assaults on Taiwan.

However, Foreign affairs analysts opines that the operations may have a meaningful impact on Trump because Maduro’s capture and now the killing of Ayotolla Khamenei might in future emboldened President Trump to continue his ‘colonial style exercise of might’ and reckless, unilateral military campaign rhetorics, as Trump has proven “ hawkish more than his predecessors” leaving future generation to feel the backlash.

With the escalation of the war in the Middle East, what are the implications for Africa and the world? No doubt, the on-going war has brought deep concern over the conflict which began when the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran. The ensuing instability will impact the global energy market, food supply chain for Africa and the world.

In a statement released by African Union, called for “restraint, urgent de-escalation and sustained dialogue  According to the Chairman of AU, Ali Yousouf “ the conflict has serious implication for energy markets, food security and economic resilience”, noting that in Africa, conflicts and economic pressure remain acute.

The US-Israeli war on Iran has been condemned as illegal across much of the global South with China saying it was unacceptable to “ blatantly kill the leader of a Sovereign state”. Many countries also objected to the war that negotiations between the US and Iran over nuclear programme and missile capability were not given a chance to succeed before Washington and Tel Aviv began bombing and that is why an analyst saw the war in terms of ” colonial style exercise of might”.

Trump action was also criticized for disregarding and eroding Internatio nal law and the unilateral defiance of  international law and norms of diplomacy. The issue now is, who can stop Trump and Nentayahu?

In Nigeria, analysts also warned of a potential domestic security concern because the Islamic Movement ( IMN) which is a pro-Iran Shia group led by Ibrahim El-Zakzaky known for organizing solidarity protests with Iran are already crying more than the bereaved as protests started in Kaduna, Abuja and even Lagos some days ago.

While Nigeria is not directly involved in this current strikes in Iran, the indirect effects on energy prices, inflation, food security and economic resilience are areas of great concern. Therefore, there is need for sustained peace, renew dialogue and international cooperation to safeguard development, progress in our country and the world.
