NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government has renamed some federal airports after several notable Nigerians.
This Nigeria News platform understands that this was contained in a memo directed to all Head of Operations of FAAN and titled, “Naming of Federal Airports in favour of some prominent Nigerians,” by the Federal Ministry of Aviation dated June 1.
The statement made available on Monday to NewsOnline Nigeria noted that the President renamed the airports “as part of reforms of the Aviation sector”.
The memo signed by the Director of Airport Operations, Mrs Joke Olatunji, was made available to The PUNCH on Monday, read, “I am directed to refer a memo with reference number, FMA/T4464/7090/T7B/647 from FAAN on the naming of some federal airports after notable Nigerians.”
The Maiduguri Airport was renamed after the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari and the Port Harcourt Airport after the late nationalist Obafemi Awolowo, while the Nasarawa Airport immortalised the late founder of the Sokoto Caliphate, Usman Dan Fodio.
Also, the Benin Airport was renamed after the late Oba of Benin, Oba Akenzua II, Ebonyi Airport after the late Senate President Chuba Okadigbo, and the Ibadan Airport after the late Premier of the old Western Region, Ladoke Akintola.
