Sterling Bank and their partners have launched a nationwide cleanup drive to boost climate action in Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Sterling Bank, in partnership with Sterling One Foundation, Lagos Waste Management Authority, Sunbeth, and other stakeholders, has announced the launch of “The Great Nigeria Cleanup,” a nationwide environmental initiative aimed at tackling waste pollution and promoting sustainability.

Scheduled for April 25, 2026, the campaign will span all six geopolitical zones, mobilising volunteers across key states including Lagos, Abuja, Ogun, Cross River, Delta, Kano, and Enugu, among others. The initiative aligns with global sustainability goals and seeks to drive community-led action against plastic pollution and environmental degradation.

Speaking on the project, Chief Operating Officer of Sterling Bank, Temitayo Adegoke, emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in addressing environmental challenges.

He noted that the initiative aims to foster a culture of environmental stewardship and long-term behavioural change among citizens.

Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer of Sterling One Foundation, Olapeju Ibekwe, described the cleanup as a movement focused on dignity, wellbeing, and shared responsibility, adding that it empowers communities to take ownership of their environment.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with waste management and urban pollution challenges, stakeholders say the initiative represents a coordinated effort between the public and private sectors to drive sustainable impact.

Citizens across the country have been encouraged to participate in the cleanup exercise, reinforcing the message that environmental protection is a shared national responsibility.
