Presidency has confirmed that Finance Minister Wale Edun is recovering and dismissed stroke rumours.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Presidency has provided an update on the health condition of Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, assuring the public that he is recuperating well.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, disclosed that he spoke directly with Edun, who confirmed that he was feeling much better.

Dare wrote:
“Moments ago, I got off the phone with Nigeria’s Finance Minister/COE Mr. Wale Edun in Abuja. Over a bowl of Amala, we spoke for a few minutes with assurances he was getting better. I wished him the best of health. Sunday Dare Alamala Reporting.”

His statement follows clarification from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who debunked widespread rumours that Edun had suffered a stroke or been flown abroad for medical treatment.

“Yes, he’s indisposed. Wale Edun is about 69 years old. He suddenly fell ill. As we are talking, he is in Nigeria, recuperating at his residence,” Onanuga confirmed.

Reports of Edun’s ill health last week had fuelled speculation that President Tinubu was considering replacing him as Coordinating Minister of the Economy. However, the Presidency has dismissed those claims, describing them as baseless.

It further confirmed that Edun would not attend the 2025 World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, leading the Nigerian delegation in his absence.
