Peter Mbah, Siminalayi Fubara, Other PDP Governors Set To Join APC (FULL LIST)

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that at least four governors from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are reportedly preparing to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the 2027 general elections draw near.

 

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has already confirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu, announcing that his state will now work as a united front, blending PDP and APC efforts.

Governor Eno’s move is seen as part of a broader shift, where the entire PDP structure in Akwa Ibom is expected to back the APC’s success in the upcoming elections.

 

According to ThisDay, in addition to Eno, Governors Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State are also reportedly weighing their options.

 

Some of these governors are contemplating supporting Tinubu’s second term while staying in PDP, while others might defect outright to the APC.

 

Their decisions are believed to be influenced by the desire to secure political survival and ensure smooth re-election prospects.

 

Governor Eno’s decision to endorse Tinubu has sparked discussions about the future of the PDP, particularly as it tries to regroup ahead of the 2027 elections.

 

Talks of defection are said to be advancing, with certain conditions being negotiated to ensure benefits for all parties involved.

 

For Governor Eno, his decision to back Tinubu is also tied to his desire to secure his political future, particularly against potential challenges to his re-election.

 

There are rumours that Akpabio, who is already working to coordinate this realignment, may play a key role in further negotiations.

The possibility of a second term for the President of the Senate is also part of the deal for those backing Tinubu’s re-election.

 

Governors Oborevwori, Mbah, and Fubara are still exploring their options, weighing whether to remain in PDP while supporting Tinubu or leave the opposition party entirely.

 

The situation is further complicated by political struggles in Rivers State, which have made Fubara’s defection difficult.

 

However, these governors’ decisions could have major consequences for the PDP, which is already dealing with internal divisions.

 

Some party leaders fear that defections will deal a heavy blow to the party’s chances in 2027.
