LAMATA appeared before the Lagos Assembly over the non-use of the Yoruba language in the Train announcement.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on Thursday honoured the summons by the Lagos State House of Assembly.

This Nigeria News platform understands that their presence was in response to the Lagos Assembly’s query over the non-use of the Yoruba language for announcements on regulated public transport services.

The Lagos State’s Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture were also summoned.

At the committee hearing were Mr. Oluwaseyi Osiyemi, the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, and Mr. Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Both Osiyemi and Aregbe hailed the assembly for bringing speaking Yoruba back to the frontrunner and promised to comply with the legislation.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. David Setonji, who was joined by the Deputy Majority Leader in the House, Hon. Adedamola Richard Kasunmu, noted that the summons was made so that extant legislation on the use of Yoruba language in transactions in the state could be upheld.

Setonji said that though LAMATA had immediately complied with the directive of the House, there was for ministries and agencies to uphold the regulation.
