Kano Police has launched probe into the violent clash between Emir Sanusi and Emir Bayero loyalists.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Kano State Police Command has set up a panel to investigate the violent clash that broke out in the Kofar-Kudu area of Kano metropolis between supporters of the deposed 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and loyalists of the reinstated 16th Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the development to Punch on Monday, stating that Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, had ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident.

“The CP, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has set up a panel to investigate the altercation,” Haruna disclosed in a WhatsApp message.

The clash reportedly occurred on Sunday when Bayero’s convoy attempted to pass through the Kofar-Kudu area on the way from his Mandawari residence to the Nassarawa mini-palace. Eyewitnesses claimed that the convoy met resistance from Emir Sanusi’s loyalists, leading to property damage and injuries.

According to residents, hoodlums allegedly vandalised the main gate of the Gidan Rumfa Palace, injured palace guards, and damaged police vehicles.

Police intervened promptly, using tear gas to disperse the rival factions and prevent further escalation.

The altercation is the latest flashpoint in the ongoing power tussle sparked by the Kano State Government’s decision in May 2024 to depose Emir Bayero and reinstate Emir Sanusi II. Both monarchs currently operate from separate palaces amid legal battles and political tension.
