FG and other Stakeholders have applauded Moniepoint for strengthening North East’s Agric Value Chain and empowering farmers with digital tools.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Government has commended Moniepoint Inc. for its significant contribution to Nigeria’s agricultural sector, particularly in strengthening the resilience of the North East’s agricultural value chain and equipping smallholder farmers with innovative digital payment solutions.

Dr. Tope Fasua, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs (Office of the Vice President), gave the commendation during a private screening of Moniepoint’s case study and documentary titled “Inside Nigeria’s Food Chain” in Abuja.

The 12-minute documentary explored Nigeria’s food industry supply chain with a focus on the North East, particularly Borno State, highlighting how local farmers are connected to national markets despite insecurity and economic pressures.

Dr. Fasua praised Moniepoint for showcasing how digital financial services are promoting economic inclusion among rural communities:

“This documentary is an eye-opener, revealing the operations and resilience of our people in the face of challenges. It was heartwarming to see how digitization and financial inclusion are driving confidence at the grassroots, where you’d least expect technology adoption,” he said.

He further noted that despite persistent insecurity, farmers in the region have continued to produce grains, livestock, and other agricultural outputs, while increasingly embracing both modern and subsistence-level farming practices.

A key insight from the case study emphasized that Nigeria’s food supply chain thrives on informal, trust-based networks which, rather than being weaknesses, are strategic assets that have proven more adaptable and durable during crises compared to formal institutions.

Speaking on the rationale behind the project, Moniepoint’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Edidiong Uwemakpan, said the initiative was aimed at humanizing financial data by spotlighting the real lives and impact behind the transactions.

“We wanted to peel back the layers on the naira and kobo, to uncover the stories behind the transactions and what they mean for Nigeria. Our hyperlocal approach, tailored to Nigerians’ lifestyles and trading habits, has helped us build trust and deepen digital adoption,” she explained.

Uwemakpan also noted that the documentary sought to shift the narrative around Borno State, often associated with insecurity, by showcasing its agricultural diversity and contributions to national food security.

Communications strategist, Tolu Ogunlesi, lauded the project, stressing its importance in reframing perceptions of the region:

“Many towns in the North East became known for insurgency, not for their immense contribution to Nigeria’s food security. This documentary allows us to appreciate their resilience and recognize them for what they truly represent—strength and socio-economic value,” he said.

The Abuja screening, held at Genesis Cinema, was attended by stakeholders from civil society, the diplomatic community, policy institutions, security agencies, and the media.
