FG has released 30% funding for Major Road and Bridge Projects Nationwide.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Government has released 30% of the funds required for several critical multibillion-naira road and bridge projects across the country, including the Abuja–Kano highway, Enugu–Onitsha expressway, Nembe–Brass Road, Lagos–Sagamu–Ore highway, Bodo–Bonny Road, Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha dual carriageway, and the Ilesha–Akure–Benin corridor.

This Nigeria news platform understands that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, made the announcement on Thursday while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in Abuja.

Providing details, Umahi explained that the Abuja–Kano highway is divided into two lots. Lot 1 spans 118 kilometres with a contract value of N256 billion, out of which N75 billion has been paid, representing 30% of the cost, and over 30% of the construction work has been completed. Lot 2 covers 164 kilometres at a cost of N502 billion, and N150 billion has now been released to the contractor.

On the 72-kilometre Enugu–Onitsha expressway, valued at N150 billion, the government has also disbursed 30% funding, amounting to N45 billion.

“Let me announce so you can track progress. For the Abuja–Kano Road, Lot 1 is 118 kilometres at N256 billion. Mr. President has already paid N75 billion, which is 30%, and over 30% of the work is done. Lot 2 is 164 kilometres at N502 billion, and the President has approved N150 billion, which will be credited to the contractor’s account within two days,” Umahi said.

He added: “The President has also approved 30% for the Enugu–Onitsha road—N45 billion out of N150 billion.”

Additional Projects Funded

Other road projects that have received 30% funding include the Lagos–Sagamu–Ore highway, Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha dual carriageway, and the Ilesha–Akure–Benin corridor.

Umahi further disclosed that funding has also been provided for urgent repair works on damaged portions of roads between Bauchi and Jigawa States, Sukuk-backed projects in Gombe State, and the reconstruction of the collapsed Keffi flyover in Nasarawa State, which recently led to the death of three individuals.

He emphasized the importance of these infrastructure developments, including the ongoing Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, in enhancing national road connectivity and stimulating economic activities across various regions.

Umahi also revealed that the Ministry of Works will publish a comprehensive list of all federal road and bridge projects valued above N10 billion next week.
