In the alternative, he asked to be moved to any facility within the court’s immediate jurisdiction such as Suleja or Keffi pending the determination of his appeal.

Federal High Court has rejected Nnamdi Kanu’s request to be moved from Sokoto prison.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an application by detained Biafra agitator, Nnamdi Kanu, seeking his immediate transfer from the Sokoto Correctional Facility to a custodial centre closer to the Federal Capital Territory.

Kanu, through the Legal Aid Council, had filed an ex-parte application requesting the court to order the Federal Government and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) to relocate him to either Kuje Prison in Abuja or Keffi Custodial Centre in Nasarawa State. He argued that the transfer was necessary to enable him effectively pursue his constitutional right of appeal.

In the alternative, he asked to be moved to any facility within the court’s immediate jurisdiction such as Suleja or Keffi pending the determination of his appeal.

However, on Monday, Justice James Omotosho declined to grant the request, ruling that the matter could not be decided without hearing from all parties involved. The judge instructed Kanu to convert the ex-parte motion into a motion on notice and serve it on the Federal Government and relevant authorities.

Justice Omotosho adjourned the case to January 27, 2026, for hearing.

This comes a week after the same court refused to recognise the appearance of Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel, who attempted to speak for him in court despite not being a legal practitioner.
