NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Justice Yusuf Halilu of the FCT High Court has fixed Thursday, September 25, 2025, for the arraignment of five retired senior police officers accused of falsifying their ages to illegally extend their service years.

The officers, AIG Idowu Owohunwa (rtd.), CP Benneth Igwe (rtd.), CP Ukachi Opara (rtd.), DCP Obo Ukam Obo (rtd.), and ACP Simon Lough (rtd.) are facing a 14-count charge of forgery filed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetukun.

According to the charges, the officers allegedly altered their dates of birth and service records at various times to remain in office. For instance, Owohunwa was accused of declaring July 20, 1970, as his date of birth instead of 1967, while CP Igwe allegedly backdated his birth year from 1964 to 1968. ACP Lough was also accused of altering his record from 1967 to 1969.

The offences, punishable under Sections 97, 161, 366 and 158 of the Penal Code, were flagged after a petition by the Integrity Youth Alliance, prompting the IGP to issue queries earlier this year.

While the accused officers have denied the allegations, describing them as false and malicious, the court will determine the matter when trial opens later this month.
