President Tinubu has sacked his Service Chiefs amid worsening kidnapping spree and killings across Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in Nigeria’s security leadership, sacking all Service Chiefs amid a nationwide surge in kidnappings and worsening insecurity.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President approved sweeping changes across the military hierarchy “in furtherance of the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening the national security architecture.”

Under the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Others include Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

The President expressed “profound appreciation” to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” while urging the new appointees to restore public confidence in the security system and respond decisively to the growing wave of kidnappings, banditry, and terrorism.

“The newly appointed Service Chiefs must justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship across the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the statement read.

Tinubu emphasized that the changes were necessary to inject fresh energy into the fight against insecurity, which has intensified in recent months, with several high-profile abductions and attacks reported across major highways and rural communities.

The President’s directive takes immediate effect, signaling a renewed urgency in addressing Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.
