President Tinubu has approved ₦45bn Biosecurity Surveillance System for five International Airports.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦45 billion for the deployment of an integrated biosecurity and disease surveillance system at five international airports to strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to detect and respond to emerging infectious disease threats.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the President.

Pate listed the five airports as Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt and Enugu.
According to the minister, the project will be implemented through a 20-year public-private partnership with the BioHealth Consortium.
The system will deploy advanced technologies, including aircraft wastewater surveillance, air and surface sampling, and specialised pathogen detection systems, to identify potential disease threats entering the country.
Pate said the initiative would enable authorities to monitor a broad range of dangerous pathogens, improve coordination among relevant agencies and strengthen health security at Nigeria’s borders.
The investment is expected to enhance the country’s preparedness for emerging infectious diseases by improving early detection and response capabilities at key international entry points.
