President Tinubu has converted popular Polytechnic to University.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has given approval for the Federal Polytechnic, Kabo in Kano State to be converted into a university.

The school will now be known as the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo.

This move adds another federal university to Kano, making it the third of its kind in the state.

The other two are Bayero University Kano and the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, which was recently changed from a Federal University of Education.

In addition to these, Kano also has two universities run by the state government.

The announcement was made during the Senate plenary last week, where the president’s letters concerning the creation of new universities in Kano, Akwa Ibom, and Oyo states were shared with lawmakers.

In a related development, the Nigerian Senate has passed two bills that will lead to the creation of new federal universities in Ondo and Gombe States.

The decision was made during a plenary session after lawmakers reviewed reports from the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund.

The first bill allows for the conversion of the Federal Science Technical College in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, into the Federal University of Information Technology.

This new university will offer courses in areas like computer science, cybersecurity, programming, and other digital fields.

The aim is to train young Nigerians to meet the country’s growing need for tech professionals and boost innovation across various sectors.

The second bill seeks to transform the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Gombe into the Federal University of Education (Technical).

This institution will focus on technical education and teacher training.

The idea is to improve the quality of teachers in Nigeria and align teaching methods with modern standards used around the world.

The bills were sponsored by Senator Jide Ipinsagba from Ondo North and Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo from Gombe North.
