The high-level summit, scheduled for August 20–22 at Pacifico Yokohama, will bring together African leaders, global partners, and investors. Tinubu is expected to use the platform to attract Asian investments to Nigeria and deepen bilateral relations with Japan.

TICAD, launched by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition took place in Tunisia.

This year’s summit, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, focuses on innovation-driven economic transformation, private sector investments, peace, stability, and sustainable development across Africa.

During the summit, President Tinubu will also hold bilateral talks and meet with CEOs of Japanese firms already investing in Nigeria. His attendance marks his first official visit to Japan since assuming office in May 2023 and signals Nigeria’s commitment to forging stronger economic and diplomatic ties with Asia.
