Presidency has broken silence on President Tinubu’s alleged critical health condition.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Presidency has firmly denied reports suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is critically ill and preparing to leave the country for medical treatment.

The rebuttal comes after the Nigerian Institute for Investigative Journalism (NIIJ) published claims last week, citing unnamed sources, that the President’s medical team was arranging an urgent evacuation abroad.

The report alleged Tinubu had been bedridden, forcing Vice President Kashim Shettima to take over official engagements and leading to the cancellation of several presidential activities.

Addressing the allegations in an interview with BBC Hausa on Monday, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, AbdulAziz AbdulAziz, dismissed the reports as baseless.

“There is no truth in these statements. He is still in office,” AbdulAziz said.

Rumours about the President’s health gained traction following his absence at the August 3 ceremony celebrating Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, where Shettima represented him. Tinubu’s last public appearance was on August 1 at the opening of the Summit on Journalism for National Development.

Prior to that, the President hosted a reception for the Super Falcons after their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations victory in Morocco.

The Presidency insists that President Tinubu remains actively engaged in his duties, describing the health speculation as unfounded and politically motivated.
