Senator Omo-Agege has spoken on welcoming PDP Governor Oborevwori and Okowa to APC.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Deputy Senate President and 2023 Delta State APC governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, will not be welcomed into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a meeting of APC leaders in Ika South and Ika North East LGAs on Monday, Omo-Agege made it clear that while the party is open to accepting Senator Ned Nwoko and some lawmakers, it has no interest in bringing in Oborevwori and Okowa.

He dismissed claims that APC has lost its influence in Delta State, saying: “After the 2023 elections, PDP spread false propaganda that APC no longer exists in Delta. Yet, APC won two senatorial seats and two House of Reps seats. Now, the only PDP senator is set to join APC. So, are we not the majority party?

“APC won the senatorial seat, two out of three House of Representatives seats, while Labour Party won one. PDP got none. Out of nine House of Assembly seats in Delta Central, APC secured five while PDP got four. So, which party is truly more popular?”

He accused the Oborevwori administration of attempting to downplay APC’s strength, noting that despite the presence of a PDP governor and a former vice-presidential candidate in Ika South and Ika North East, APC still secured the required 25% of votes in the last election.

Omo-Agege assured party members that internal disputes within the Delta APC would be resolved before 2027.

“We should stop focusing on our internal issues and instead take advantage of PDP’s bigger problems. Are we even sure PDP will still exist in 2027?” he asked.

He credited President Bola Tinubu’s policies for making APC more attractive in Delta, revealing that more political figures were set to defect.

However, he firmly rejected any potential defection by Okowa and Oborevwori.

“We have built this party from scratch, and we will not allow people with questionable records to destroy what we have worked hard for,” he stated.

Omo-Agege also disclosed that additional PDP lawmakers were set to join the APC.

“Soon, we will have three senators, and I am aware that the three PDP House of Reps members are joining APC. Some House of Assembly members will also join us.

“We welcome everyone except Oborevwori and Okowa. They should remain in PDP and rebuild their party,” he declared.

He further accused Governor Oborevwori’s administration of suppressing House of Assembly members.

“You can’t even speak as a member; if you dare, you will be slammed with suspension. That’s why they are all coming to APC,” he added.

On his part, APC National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Felix Morka, assured party members that the APC National Chairman and key stakeholders are committed to resolving internal issues in Delta State before the 2027 elections.
