Nnamdi Kanu has withdrawn plan to call witnesses and declared terrorism charges against him invalid.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has withdrawn his earlier plan to call witnesses in his ongoing terrorism trial before the Federal High Court, Abuja.

At Monday’s resumed hearing, Kanu told the court he had reviewed the case file and found no valid charge against him. He insisted that since the trial was “unlawful,” there was no reason to present any defence.

Recall that the court had adjourned proceedings on October 24 to allow Kanu open his defence after he applied for witness summons. However, in a dramatic turn, he informed the court he would no longer proceed with that plan.

Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the case, directed Kanu to file a formal written address outlining his position and serve the prosecution.

The judge further advised Kanu to seek expert counsel in criminal law to understand the implications of his decision to forgo a defence in the ongoing trial.
