NANS has given FG and ASUU seven-day ultimatum to avert another strike.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve their ongoing disagreement and prevent a fresh strike that could cripple academic activities nationwide.

The ultimatum was contained in a statement released on Wednesday and signed by NANS President, Olushola Oladoja.

NANS expressed deep concern over the renewed tension between the government and ASUU, warning that any disruption to the academic calendar would be “totally unacceptable” to Nigerian students.

Oladoja noted that Nigeria’s education sector has enjoyed two consecutive years of uninterrupted learning under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Administration, a record not achieved since the country’s return to democracy in 1999.

He cautioned that the current crisis threatens to reverse this progress.

“It is, therefore, in this spirit that NANS appeals to both ASUU and the Federal Government’s negotiation team to find a workable and lasting solution within the next seven (7) days,” the statement read.

The student body further stressed that many undergraduates are now studying through educational loan schemes, making it even more critical to avoid any break in academic activities.

“Nigerian students cannot afford another disruption or an extension of their stay on campus,” NANS warned.
