Lagos Police has declared Omoyele Sowore wanted over alleged plot to disrupt public order.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Police Command has declared activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, wanted over alleged plans to incite public unrest and obstruct major roads across the state.

Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, made this known on Monday during a press briefing at the Iyana-Oworo section of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

According to Jimoh, security operatives are closing in on Sowore and other alleged collaborators accused of coordinating activities that could threaten public peace.

“Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found. Anyone attempting to cause disturbance or block our roads will face the full weight of the law,”
the commissioner warned.

He revealed that intelligence reports showed Sowore and his associates planned to stage demonstrations at strategic locations, including the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park.

Jimoh described the alleged plot as “criminal,” warning that it could cause severe traffic congestion and endanger lives.

“It is only someone who needs examination that would attempt to block such a vital route used by thousands daily,” he added.

The police boss confirmed that 13 suspects had already been arrested in connection with the planned protest, while Sowore allegedly fled. Investigations, he said, are ongoing to identify potential sponsors and collaborators.

Jimoh stated that officers have been deployed across major highways and bridges in Lagos, with temporary roadblocks and diversions in place to safeguard peace and protect critical infrastructure.

“The Third Mainland Bridge was not designed to hold stationary weight. Any gathering on it could pose structural risks,” he noted.

Addressing recent tensions over government demolitions in the Oworo-Soki area, the commissioner maintained that those affected had been duly compensated.

“The government compensated eligible residents, and the media witnessed it. There is no justification to provoke crisis under the guise of protest,” he said.

Jimoh urged Lagosians to go about their normal activities without fear, assuring that security agencies remain fully mobilised to maintain law and order.

“We are not sleeping. We will apprehend, investigate, and prosecute anyone attempting to undermine public safety in Lagos,”
he declared.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to enforcing the law “without fear or favour,” stressing that while freedom of expression is guaranteed, it must not be used to disrupt public peace or endanger lives.
