Tuesday Public Holiday

Kaduna, Katsina, and Kano among other States have declared Tuesday Public Holiday to honour Late President Muhammadu Buhari.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Northwest Governors Forum has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday across all seven states of the zone in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in a UK hospital after a prolonged illness.

The announcement was made in a statement personally signed by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, who described the former president’s passing as a colossal national loss and a moment of “deep sorrow for the Northwest region.”

“The Northwest Governors Forum receives with heavy hearts the news of the passing of our beloved leader and father figure, General Muhammadu Buhari,” the statement read. “He was not just a statesman; he was the moral compass of a generation and a symbol of discipline and sacrifice in public life.”

The holiday will be observed in Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara to allow citizens time to reflect and pay their respects to the late leader.

Governor Radda hailed Buhari as “the pride of the Northwest” and a man whose life was marked by unwavering integrity, courage, and service to the nation. He noted that the former president’s influence extended far beyond politics, shaping the national conscience for decades.

The late president’s remains are expected to arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday, with funeral prayers and burial scheduled for 2:00 PM, in accordance with Islamic rites.

Calling for national unity in grief, the Forum urged Nigerians from all backgrounds to pray for Buhari’s peaceful repose and to draw inspiration from his legacy.

Radda also extended condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and the Nigerian public, saying, “May Allah (SWT) grant him Aljanah Firdaus and give the nation the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”

Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s elected President from 2015 to 2023 and as military Head of State between 1983 and 1985, was one of the most enduring and influential figures in the country’s political history. His passing marks the end of an era.
