Court has stopped Pat Utomi from forming shadow government in Nigeria.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Federal High Court in Abuja has barred Professor Pat Utomi and his associates from going ahead with their plan to establish a shadow government in the country.

Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice James Omotosho declared the move unconstitutional and “an alien concept” to Nigeria’s presidential system.

The ruling followed a suit filed by the Department of State Services (DSS), which argued that the initiative posed a threat to national security.

Justice Omotosho held that while citizens have the right to association and to criticise the government, such rights cannot be used as a cover for unlawful activities.

He further commended the DSS for approaching the court, stressing that the agency acted within its mandate to prevent acts capable of undermining internal security.
