TIME 100 Most Influential People of 2026

Aliko Dangote and Donald Trump have been named in TIME 100 Most Influential People of 2026.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that global business and political influence took centre stage as Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote and U.S. President Donald Trump have been named among TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2026, highlighting their continued impact on global economics, policy, and leadership discourse.

The list, released on April 15 by TIME Magazine, recognises individuals shaping global conversations across business, politics, technology, and culture. Both Dangote and Trump were featured alongside global figures such as Xi Jinping, Benjamin Netanyahu, Mark Carney, and Pope Leo XIV, as well as technology leaders including Sundar Pichai and Neal Mohan.

Dangote, listed in the Titans category, is the only Nigerian on the 2026 edition, though other Africans also made the list, including Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Precious Matsoso, Anok Yai, Mamadou Amadou Ly, and Zabib Musa Loro, reflecting Africa’s growing representation across governance, health, culture, education, and peacebuilding.

This marks Dangote’s second appearance on the TIME100 list, following his initial recognition in 2014 for his influence in business and philanthropy. His return more than a decade later underscores the scale and consistency of his global economic impact.

As founder of the Dangote Group, he has built Africa’s largest indigenous industrial empire, spanning cement production, sugar refining, fertiliser manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure, and energy. His investments have reduced import dependence while boosting local production capacity and job creation across the continent.

TIME highlighted Dangote’s long-term vision of building globally competitive industries using African resources, pointing to his large-scale investments in manufacturing and energy infrastructure as central to Africa’s industrial transformation.

Other notable figures in the Titans category include Reid Wiseman, commander of NASA’s Artemis II mission, Sundar Pichai, Neal Mohan, Michael and Susan Dell, and Ralph Lauren.

In the Pioneer category, honourees include Kiran Musunuru and Rebecca Ahrens-Nicklas for advances in genetic therapy, and Aaron Williams for contributions to heart transplant readiness.

The list also features global entertainment and cultural figures such as Ranbir Kapoor, Dakota Johnson, and Kate Hudson, recognised for their influence in film and popular culture.

Beyond business, Dangote is also recognised for his philanthropic work through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which supports initiatives in healthcare, nutrition, education, disaster relief, and economic empowerment.

The 2026 recognition comes as the Dangote Group advances its long-term Vision 2030 strategy, aimed at transforming the conglomerate into a $100 billion global enterprise. The plan focuses on scaling core sectors such as cement, fertiliser, and energy, while expanding into steel production, power generation, and deep-sea port infrastructure.

The latest TIME100 recognition reflects growing global acknowledgement of African leadership in enterprise and governance, with Dangote standing out as a symbol of large-scale industrial ambition and continental economic transformation.
