In a notice signed by Piwuna and released Monday, ASUU accused the government of neglecting the university system and refusing to implement key agreements.

“If at the end of the fourteen-day ultimatum the Federal Government fails to address these issues, the Union may have no option but to first embark on a two-week warning strike and thereafter, a total and indefinite strike,” the notice warned.

The union’s demands include:

  • Renegotiation of the 2009 agreement with the Federal Government

  • Adequate revitalisation funds for universities

  • Payment of outstanding salary arrears

  • Establishment of sustainable funding mechanisms

The Federal Ministry of Education had earlier set up a committee led by Permanent Secretary Abel Enitan to address ASUU’s proposals, but no resolution has been made public.
