The court has sacked the Pro-Wike PDP Chairman and nullified all state congresses in Rivers State.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has nullified the election of Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The court also invalidated the ward, local government, and state congresses of the PDP conducted in July 2024.

Justice Stephen Jumbo, who presided over the case, declared the congresses invalid, citing irregularities and a lack of due process.

This decision comes weeks after a similar ruling nullified the congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, which had produced Tony Okocha, an ally of Wike as chairman.

The judgment followed a dispute over the legitimacy of the PDP congresses, which were allegedly organized by a faction loyal to Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Recalls that a Rivers State High Court presided over by Justice Charles Wali, had on July 20, 2024, issued an injunction restraining the PDP from proceeding with the congresses.

Despite the ruling, the party proceeded with the exercise, prompting the current legal tussle.

The court’s decision is expected to deepen the division within the PDP in Rivers State.

As of the time of filing this report, the PDP in Rivers State is yet to issue an official statement on the court’s decision.
