Similarly, Olumide Oworu claimed he and his team members were attacked on Tuesday, March 14, as they attempted to campaign in Iponri, Surulere area of Lagos State.

The actor who is contesting against his senior colleague and All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidate, Desmond Elliot, said though one of his team members was attacked, he is thankful that the incident did not escalate past the level it was.

“My team and I were attacked on Tuesday as we attempted to campaign at Iponri, Surulere. A member of my team was injured, but we are thankful the incident didn’t escalate past the level it was. The case has been reported at the Iponri police station.

“I am not deterred by the incident. Instead, I am more committed to seeing this through. We will pass through the wards in constituency 1 (Akinhanmi/Cole, Adeniran/Ogunsanya, Iponri Housing Estate/Eric Moore, Igbaja/Stadium, Shitta/Ogunlana Drive, Yaba/Ojuelegba). See you outside!” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Newsone Nigeria reports that the younger Olumide Owuru who is a Nollywood actor is hoping to unseat his senior colleague, Desmond Elliot as the member of Lagos State House of Assembly representing Surulere constituency 1, a post-Desmond has held for eight years.

The attack is coming three days before the governorship and state assembly elections in Nigeria.  On March 8, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria’s electoral umpire, postponed the governorship and state assembly elections till March 18.

The 2023 Governorship Election and the State Assembly election were previously scheduled to hold on March 11, but INEC, citing a logistics crisis stemming from BVAS configuration and transportation, said the election could not hold again as scheduled following a meeting of its executives on Wednesday evening.

“The elections were postponed to allow one more week for preparations,” an official familiar with the meeting told Peoples Gazette by telephone on Wednesday night. “We should be able to get everything in order before March 18.”
