Amazon Web Services (AWS) crash has disrupted Canva, Snapchat, Zoom, and other major platforms leading to a global outage.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Amazon’s cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), suffered a major outage on Monday, disrupting several popular digital platforms and applications, including Canva, Snapchat, Zoom, and others, that depend heavily on its cloud infrastructure.

In a statement released by the company, AWS confirmed that the disruption originated from its US East Coast region, affecting multiple operational services simultaneously.

“Engineers were immediately engaged and are actively working on both mitigating the issue and fully understanding the root cause,” AWS said in its operational update.

The outage, which began in the early hours of Monday, led to widespread downtime for millions of users globally, as websites and mobile apps struggled to connect to AWS’s servers.

Affected Platforms

Data from outage-tracking site Downdetector.com revealed that several high-profile services — including Snapchat, Zoom, Roblox, Clash Royale, MyFitnessPal, Life360, Fortnite, Canva, Duolingo, Signal, Slack, and Peloton were among those affected.

Other major platforms such as Coinbase, Epic Games, PlayStation Network, and the London Stock Exchange Group’s data services also reported disruptions.

Aravind Srinivas, CEO of AI-powered search engine Perplexity, confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that their downtime was directly linked to the AWS outage.

“Perplexity is down right now. The root cause is an AWS issue. We’re working on resolving it,” Srinivas wrote.

Canva, which serves over 170 million monthly users globally, also acknowledged the incident, stating:

“Our cloud provider is currently experiencing problems. It’s not the experience we want for you, and we’re working closely with them to re-establish service. Thanks for your patience and understanding as we work to bring things back to normal.”

The design platform directed users to canvastatus.com for live updates.

As of press time, there were no confirmed reports of the outage affecting Nigerian users.

AWS’s Global Dominance

Amazon Web Services remains the world’s largest cloud-computing provider, ahead of Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. It powers critical digital infrastructure for businesses, apps, and government services across multiple sectors.

AWS provides on-demand access to data storage, computing power, AI tools, networking, and analytics — enabling companies to operate without maintaining physical data centers.

Due to its massive global reach, any disruption at AWS can trigger cascading failures across industries, affecting millions of users and organizations worldwide.

While the full scale of Monday’s outage has yet to be determined, early reports indicate millions of users were impacted across various platforms.
