Akpabio has officially handed over Akwa Ibom APC Structure to Governor Umo Eno.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Friday, formally handed over the political structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State to Governor Umo Eno.

The event took place at the Akwa Ibom Government House Banquet Hall in Uyo, where Akpabio declared Eno as the new leader of the ruling party in the state.

“I want to formally hand over the APC structure in Akwa Ibom to the new leader of the party in the state,” Akpabio announced.

“By symbolically handing over the broom that will sweep away poverty, underdevelopment, and disunity from Akwa Ibom.”

The statement drew loud applause from party faithful and stakeholders gathered at the event.

Recall thatGovernor Umo Eno officially joined the APC last month, effectively ending the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 26-year dominance in Akwa Ibom.

He was elected governor on the platform of the PDP but has now pledged allegiance to the APC to accelerate the state’s development goals.

Speaking during the event, Eno said his defection was driven by the need to expedite long-delayed infrastructure projects, especially the Ibom Deep Seaport.

“We are not afraid of joining the APC, for we know that with the APC we would realise our Ibom Deep Seaport,” he said.

“That is our plea. For over 30 years, Akwa Ibom has struggled to have a seaport, but today we are reassured that the federal government will help us to realise it.”

Ganduje Declares Akpabio National Leader

Also present at the ceremony was the former National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, who declared Akpabio a national leader of the party and affirmed Governor Eno as the new state party leader.

“Going forward, Governor Eno is the new APC leader in Akwa Ibom, and Senator Akpabio remains a national leader of our great party,” Ganduje stated.

The event brought together APC stakeholders, federal lawmakers, and political heavyweights from within and outside the state, signalling a new chapter in Akwa Ibom politics.

Governor Eno, in his closing remarks, expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their support, assuring them of an inclusive governance approach regardless of their political affiliation.

“I remain a governor for all,” he said, “and I will continue to serve Akwa Ibom with fairness, equity, and the fear of God.”

The handover is expected to reshape the political dynamics ahead of future elections and development priorities in the oil-rich state.
