Peter Obi has urged supporters to back ADC in By-Elections amid Labour Party crisis.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on his supporters to vote for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming August 16, 2025, by-elections.

In a statement posted on X, Obi explained that the LP has no candidates recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to an ongoing internal leadership crisis.

The by-elections, scheduled to hold across 16 states, will fill 2 senatorial seats, 5 House of Representatives seats, and 9 state assembly seats.

“Kindly note that the Labour Party has no candidates recognised by INEC due to the internal crisis. I humbly urge every member of the Obidient and COPDEM families to go out and vote for the coalition political party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in their respective states. The struggle for Nigeria has started,” Obi said.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Labour Party’s leadership tussle between the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee and a rival faction led by Nenadi Usman has split the party. On August 5, the Usman faction commended INEC for excluding the list of candidates submitted by Abure’s leadership, describing the move as a relief and urging the electoral body to publish the “authentic” list.
