Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library has threatened legal action against EFCC over raid on Wet & Rave party.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has condemned the early Sunday raid by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on its premises, threatening to take legal action if a formal explanation and apology are not issued.

At around 2 a.m. on Sunday, operatives from the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 stormed the OOPL during a Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza party held at the Rounda fun spot within the facility. The raid resulted in the arrest of 93 youths and the seizure of 18 vehicles and multiple mobile devices. A viral video showed partygoers scattering in panic during the operation.

EFCC stated on its official X (formerly Twitter) account that the raid was based on credible intelligence linking the youths to suspected internet fraud activities.

In response, Vitalis Ortese, Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, described the raid as an unlawful invasion of private property. He said more than 50 armed EFCC operatives, led by an officer identified as ‘Olapade,’ entered the premises, discharging firearms and causing panic and injuries among attendees trying to escape the chaos.

Ortese’s statement detailed, “The EFCC operatives arrived without a warrant, shooting guns, threatening lives, and creating terror among residents and party participants. Despite informing the police, no prior notification of the raid was given to OOPL security or the police stationed at the venue.”

He further explained that the event was a private, well-publicized party, and local police officers confirmed they were not informed about the operation. When confronted by OOPL security and police officers, the EFCC agents reportedly insisted, “we are doing our job,” refusing to provide further details.

The management condemned the EFCC’s actions as a blatant violation of the rights of OOPL as a corporate citizen and those who attended the event. They demanded an official explanation and apology from the EFCC for the unwarranted aggression and harm caused.

“The management reserves the right to seek legal redress if the EFCC fails to provide a satisfactory explanation and apology for the disruption, injuries, and infringement on our rights,” the statement concluded.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
