WAEC has shut down result checker portal over technical issues.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a temporary shutdown of its online result checker portal due to ongoing technical issues, just days after releasing the 2025 May/June WASSCE results.

In a brief statement issued on Wednesday evening, WAEC explained that its technical team is actively working to restore access within 24 hours, and urged candidates to remain patient.

“The portal is currently experiencing technical difficulties. We are aware and are working to resolve it as soon as possible,” WAEC stated.

Outcry Over Poor 2025 WASSCE Results

The shutdown comes amid public backlash over what many have described as one of the poorest WASSCE performances in recent years.

According to official data from WAEC:

  • 1,456,727 candidates sat for the 2025 WASSCE across Nigeria.

  • Only 553,481 candidates (representing 38%) obtained credit passes in at least five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

  • This is a sharp decline from the 61% pass rate recorded in 2024.

Over 43,000 Results Under Review for Malpractice, Errors

WAEC also disclosed that while 1,413,314 results were fully processed and released, an additional 43,413 results are still being reviewed due to errors or suspected malpractice cases.

What This Means for Candidates

The temporary shutdown of the result checker portal means that students seeking to verify or print their results for admission processes or scholarship applications will need to wait until full access is restored.

WAEC has not specified an exact time for restoration but reassures stakeholders that the issue is temporary.
