2027: APC Slams Atiku, El-Rufai, Peter Obi Over ADC Coalition, Labels Alliance a Threat to National Unity

Morka criticized what he described as the “hijacking” of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by key opposition figures, claiming the coalition was not driven by ideology but by political bitterness following their defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

APC has slammed Atiku, El-Rufai, and Peter Obi over ADC Coalition, and labelled their alliance as a threat to national unity.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a scathing condemnation of a newly formed opposition coalition backed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, calling it a grave threat to Nigeria’s unity and development.

The APC made the accusation in a statement released Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in reaction to remarks by El-Rufai warning that Nigeria would be “in danger” if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is re-elected in 2027.

“Unholy Alliance” — APC Warns Against ADC Opposition Bloc

Morka criticized what he described as the “hijacking” of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by key opposition figures, claiming the coalition was not driven by ideology but by political bitterness following their defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

“The decision of Atiku and El-Rufai to take over the ADC structure, in collaboration with Peter Obi and others, is not only politically opportunistic but a grave danger to Nigeria’s peace and progress,” the statement read.

The APC insisted that Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai are now united solely by their resentment of President Tinubu’s policies, which they had once championed during their individual campaigns.

APC Alleges Hypocrisy, Political Desperation

“In a classic display of hypocrisy, Atiku and Obi, who themselves campaigned on reform platforms, have now turned against the very policies they once promised Nigerians, simply because they lost at the polls,” Morka said.

He further described the newly formed ADC opposition alliance as “a clear and present threat to the unity, peace, and progress of our nation.”

Background: ADC Emerges as Opposition Platform for 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recently become the centerpiece of a broader opposition strategy to wrest power from the APC in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Analysts suggest the merger of prominent opposition voices could significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of the next polls.
