Fidelity Bank distributed 2,500 Food Packs to vulnerable communities in Edo State.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Fidelity Bank Plc has distributed food supplies to more than 2,500 beneficiaries across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Edo State, as part of efforts to support vulnerable households and improve food security.

The intervention was carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank initiative and took place at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

The programme forms part of Fidelity Bank’s corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting communities and improving the wellbeing of vulnerable families across Nigeria.

Speaking at the distribution event, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative was designed to provide immediate support while helping strengthen community resilience.

“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” Nwagboh said.

He said the intervention also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, achieving food security and improving nutrition.

According to him, the Uromi intervention was targeted at families across eight communities, particularly those affected by food insecurity.

Nwagboh disclosed that Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs every month through the Fidelity Food Bank programme, working with 19 partners across Nigeria.

He said the programme enables the bank to reach communities where food assistance is most needed.

Edo Government commends Fidelity Bank

The Edo State Government commended the bank for extending the initiative to residents of Uromi.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, represented at the event by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, said corporate organisations had an important role to play in supporting communities.

“At a time like this, when family needs come first, this act of kindness demonstrates that corporate organisations have a vital role to play in the wellbeing of our communities,” Uwangue said.

He thanked Fidelity Bank for the intervention and encouraged other organisations to replicate similar initiatives in communities where they operate.

“On behalf of our Governor and the good people of Edo, particularly the people of Uromi, I thank Fidelity Bank for this remarkable demonstration of corporate responsibility and generosity,” he added.

Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the bank and its partners, saying the food supplies would provide relief and help reduce the financial pressure associated with feeding their families.

Fidelity Food Bank distributes 300,000 packs

Fidelity Bank introduced the Fidelity Food Bank programme in April 2023 as part of its CSR initiatives targeting hunger and malnutrition.

Since its launch, the programme has distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The bank said its monthly distribution programme is implemented in partnership with organisations working across different communities.

Fidelity Bank operates as a commercial deposit money bank serving more than 9.1 million customers through its digital banking channels and 255 business offices in Nigeria, alongside its UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.

The bank has also received several local and international recognitions, including awards for digital transformation, MSME banking, mobile banking, investment banking, SME banking and export financing.
