Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi among others have reportedly agreed to sign agreement before ADC Primary Election.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that presidential aspirants under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reached a preliminary agreement to support whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer through a transparent and credible primary process.

One of the leading contenders, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, confirmed the development in an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP on Friday.

Recall that Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Amaechi, and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have all declared their interest in contesting the 2027 presidency under the ADC platform.

Amid speculations that the party may zone its presidential ticket to the North in favour of Atiku, the ADC’s interim national chairman, Senator David Mark, stated that the party has no preferred candidate. Mark, a former Senate President, promised party members that the primaries would be fair and transparent under his leadership.

Amaechi, however, stressed the need to establish a clear definition of what constitutes a “transparent primary” to avoid manipulation of the process.

“We’ve agreed in principle that everyone will support whoever emerges through a transparent process,” he said.

“But we must first define transparency because it’s easy for someone to hijack the process and still call it transparent.”
