About NELFUND

NELFUND was established by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration when he signed the Access to Higher Education Act into law in 2023. The aim is to provide free interest loans to Nigerian students at public tertiary institutions.

According to the act that led to the establishment of NELFUND, the funding of the scheme would come from donations, endowments, grants, gifts and revenue accruing to the fund from any other source.

After three unsuccessful attempts to get the scheme running, May 2024 became its breakthrough year as the scheme disbursed loans to successful applicants.
