FG has suspended Max Air after the aircraft crash-landed at Kano Airport.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Federal Government through the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has announced that Max Air will suspend its domestic flight operations for three months, starting at midnight on Friday, January 31.

This suspension will allow the airline’s management to conduct an internal assessment of its operations.

The decision follows an incident involving a Max Air aircraft, registered 5N-MBD, which experienced a tyre burst upon landing at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on January 28, 2025, at approximately 10:51 PM.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Consumer Protection and Public Affairs at NCAA, confirmed that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has initiated an investigation into the incident.

During the three-month suspension, the NCAA will carry out both safety and economic audits of Max Air. The safety audit will include a thorough re-inspection of the airline’s operations, procedures, personnel, and aircraft, as outlined in Part 1.3.3.3(b) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations. The economic audit will evaluate the airline’s financial stability to ensure its continued ability to operate safely.

Max Air will only resume its domestic flights once the audits are completed.

“The NCAA will provide the required support to the NSIB in this regard. It must be stated that the specific cause(s) of this incident can only be established after the NSIB has conducted its investigation.

“It is instructive to note that the NCAA had commenced organisational risk profiles for each scheduled operator, including Max Air, which is nearing its conclusion.

“The NCAA is aware of the inconvenience this action may cause intending passengers of Max Air. However; the safety and well-being of passengers is paramount. Thus, NCAA appeals for patience and understanding while it ensures the protection of passenger rights,” Achimugu added.
